Pieper Veterinary Internship/Residency Programs:
Pieper Memorial offers multiple post-veterinary school training programs. Dr. Pieper believed in the importance of education and investing in the veterinary profession and we are proud to continue that mission with these programs.
Small Animal Medicine/Surgery Rotating Internship:
The Pieper Veterinary Rotating Internship provides veterinarians with a rigorous 1-year program rotating through our specialty and emergency departments.
The internship is structured for veterinarians looking to pursue both careers in private practice and further training in residency programs. We emphasize mentoring and teaching to provide a solid foundation in general, emergency, and specialty referral medicine.
Interns spend the year gaining experience by having primary case responsibility, performing and interpreting diagnostics, and communicating directly with clients.
Interns rotate through departments at Pieper Memorial including:
- Internal Medicine
- Neurology
- Critical Care
- Emergency Medicine
- Surgery
- Oncology
- Diagnostic Imaging
- Avian & Exotics
- General Practice
The program also involves weekly lectures, journal club, morbidity and mortality rounds, and a case presentation in the intern seminar series. Each intern is assigned a mentor who provides guidance throughout the year and assistance in future career plans.

Specialty Internship Programs:
Pieper Memorial also offers Specialty Internship programs in specific departments. These are 1-year programs that are completed after a rotating internship with the goal of obtaining a residency position or to further train in a specific specialty. Externships:
The Pieper Veterinary externship program provides students with a hands-on learning experience in the field of veterinary medicine. The externship is designed for students to work alongside experienced professionals, providing exposure to real-world applications paralleling their classroom training.
