ANNOUNCEMENT:

Reptiles make fascinating and rewarding companions, but it can be difficult to find a veterinarian experienced in their care. Pieper’s Avian & Exotics specialty team is here to help.

Call us at (860) 926-3233 to schedule an appointment.

Pieper Veterinary’s Avian & Exotics team sees all species of reptiles and exotic pets for both wellness and routine care, as well as for injury or illness. Dr. Sojka sees patients Wednesday – Saturday from 9am – 5pm at 730 Randolph Rd in Middletown. For all other hours, Pieper emergency room veterinarians can provide basic assessment and triage for some common conditions, and can transfer them to the care of Dr. Sojka as needed.

We treat all species that are legally-owned in the state of Connecticut, including large and small snakes, lizards, tortoises and turtles, and amphibians.

For millions of people across the US, being a reptile owner is a unique and rewarding experience that lets you bond with some truly remarkable animals. With many different species and a huge variety of shapes, colors, and habitats, it’s easy to appreciate just how fascinating reptiles are. Unfortunately the unique care needs of reptiles means that they are often the victim of poor husbandry, which can cause severe illness or injury when left uncorrected. By working together with a reptile vet who is experienced and well-versed in the care of reptiles and other exotic pets, you can rest assured that your pets are receiving the care and love they need to live happy, healthy lives.

Our Avian & Exotics team is always happy to discuss care and husbandry of your exotic pet. We also recommend the following sources for more information on caring for your pet reptiles:

Pieper Medical Services for Reptiles:

  • Advanced imaging (x-rays, ultrasound, CT, MRI)
  • Endoscopy
  • Soft tissue and orthopedic surgery
  • Infectious and chronic disease management and treatment
  • Nail and beak trims (for existing patients)
  • Reproductive wellness and procedures
  • Husbandry discussions and planning for new reptiles
  • Annual wellness exams (including vaccinations)

We are only able to treat animals which are legal to own and appropriately-permitted – wild native reptiles must be handled by a state-appointment rehabilitator.
